Turkish Airlines and Air NZ react to engine recall

Turkish Airlines and Air New Zealand have provided updates on how the Pratt & Whitney engine recall will impact their airlines. Air New Zealand will lease an additional Boeing 777-300 to replace two aircraft that need inspections for maintenance issues. Turkish Airlines expects to ground around 11-12 A320 and A321neo aircraft by the end of the year. The parent company of Pratt & Whitney, RTX, disclosed that between 600 and 700 PW1100G engines will need to be removed for inspections between 2023 and 2026. Currently, there are 242 aircraft marked as being in storage or undergoing maintenance.

Both Turkish Airlines and Air New Zealand have provided updates on how the Pratt & Whitney engine recall will impact their operations.

Air New Zealand’s CEO, Greg Foran, announced that the airline would lease an additional Boeing 777-300 to make up for the grounded Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft. These aircraft will undergo engine inspections due to maintenance issues raised by Pratt & Whitney.

Similarly, Turkish Airlines confirmed that it expects to ground around a dozen A320 and A321neo aircraft. However, due to uncertainties in the process, this number may increase. The airline operates a total of 58 Airbus A320 and A321neo jets, with 15 currently inactive.
